The family of David, Elizabeth, Emma and Grace Wombwell


David was the youngest son of John Wombwell and Sarah Corbey. At the time of the 1851 Census he was 5 years old and living in Langley at Water Wick, Lower Green with his parents John and Sarah, and brothers Charles, William, Arthur and John.

At the 1861 Census he was now aged 15, and working as an agricultural labourer. He was still living at Lower Green with his parents, his brothers Arthur and John, and niece Emily Hammond and nephew David Wombwell.

On 3rd November 1866 he married Elizabeth Anne Abrahams at Langley Parish Church. At the date of the marriage David was 20 years old, while Elizabeth was 18.

At the 1871 Census David is listed as an agricultural labourer aged 24, now living at Upper Green Langley. He and Elizabeth had their sons Albert and Frank (all of 8 months old).

By the 1881 Census the family had moved out of Langley to the neighbouring village of Little Chishill. While Little Chishill was still in Essex at that time, it was ceded in 1895 to Cambridgeshire. David was now aged 34, still working as an agricultural labourer, and living in the village, near the Manor House, with his wife Elizabeth and their children Albert, Harriet, Louisa, Charles and Samuel.

Some time after this it appears that Elizabeth had died, since he apparently married Emma Earlyman and they had a daughter Elizabeth Amelia.

It appears he was yet again unlucky as Elizabeth would appear to have died later and David married for a third time, this time to a Grace (surname not known).
